Pakistan halted the reigning champions South Africa's unbeaten run by completing a 93-run triumph in an entertaining and closely contested opening Test in Lahore.
The Proteas, whose 10-Test winning streak in the longest format ended with victory over Australia in the WTC final in the month of June, were bowled out for 183 chasing 277.
Having resumed on 51-2, they lost century-maker Tony de Zorzi leg before wicket to pace bowler Shaheen Afridi to the third delivery of the day to push the finely-poised run chase in Pakistan's favor.
Slow left-armer Noman, who secured 10 wickets for 191 runs in the game, dismissed Stubbs for 2 and bowled Brevis, who put up a fight with a rapid 54.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also took advantage of sharp turn to end opener Ryan Rickelton's innings - he lasted 145 balls for 45 - and Shaheen came back in the post-lunch session to dismiss the lower order with a fine display of reverse-swing bowling.
He had Kyle Verreynne leg before for 19 and dismissed Subrayen and Kagiso Rabada to secure the win.
It was both sides' opening game of the 2025-27 Test championship cycle and moves Pakistan straight into the number two spot behind table-toppers the Australian team.
The win was founded on contributions of 93 by opening batsman Imam and, importantly, all-rounder Salman Agha which lifted them to 378.
After that spinners Noman Ali and Sajid utilized helpful home pitches, as they had in their Test series win over the English team the previous year, to sustain their lead.
The next and final Test begins on 20 October.
